The shallow end, reinvented
A sun shelf is a wide ledge, typically six to twelve inches deep, built into one end of the pool. Loungers sit in the water. An umbrella sleeve holds shade. Small children and dogs get a place to splash that is not the deep end, and adults get the spot everyone actually fights over in a Florida August.
The question we hear most is whether the shelf can be big enough for two loungers. Yes, if it is designed in from the start. A shelf is shell geometry, sprayed as part of the gunite structure, which is why it belongs in the 3D design conversation rather than the change-order pile.
